To extend your reach on the Internet, you must develop relationships. As in your bricks and mortar business, you keep in touch with your customers, create flyers to let them know of sales and new arrivals, or services, maybe you even have a mailing list of customers that you offer special deals to. There are several ways to extend your reach through your website and luckily they are all relatively inexpensive since there are no printing or mailing costs. Implementing just one of these methods can increase the value of one customer by a factor of 10!

1) Create a biweekly newsletter for your customers and prospects. This is an electronic publication that people sign up for while on your site. Usually, they provide you with their name and e-mail address in exchange for your newsletter which is only stuffed with high value content, in demand information and special offers just for your subscribers. This is NOT a sales pitch - this should contain only relevant information. You CAN send out periodic sales letters to however. but don't confuse the two.

2) Write articles about your niche and specialty and submit them to other websites. Yes, just like you other web businesses are continually seeking high quality and relevant content for their visitors. You can help! Write a series of newsworthy articles with new, or unique information and submit them to other related websites (maybe some of the ones you e-mailed about exchanging links?). They key point in submitting articles is to make sure your byline and URL info appear on all articles and stay there while they are on the host site.

This information would look like this:
Beginning of the article: “Rottweiler Training for the Principled Dog Owner” by Bob Loblaw.

At the end of the article: Bob Loblaw is president of Rotties for Rescue Inc. a non-profit organization that trains Rottweiler dogs for search and rescue activities. Visit Bob’s website at www.rotties.qc. The URL MUST be a live link to your site so people who want more info can simply click to be take right to your site.

Extending your reach while not an “instant” results getter, is a solid long-term tactic for increasing both the number of customers to your site and their long term value.
